Harry Baker woundingOn the 26th September 1917 Harry suffered a gun shot wound in the jaw during a German raid on the British trenches near La Coulutte

Harry Baker ConvalescentFollowing treatment at Hospital, and in the 6th Convalescent Depot at Etaples, Harry returned to the 2/6th Battalion


2_6th March 1918 Harry Baker missingHarry returned to the 2/6th Battalion and was posted missing following the German Spring Offensive on the 21st March 1918

German Prisoner of War list dated May 1918. Amongst the other captured Sherwood Foresters are:-

  • 269347 Pte Herbert Wheeldon from Longnor and serving with the 2/7th Battalion
  • 242022 Pte Archibald Arthur Arnold from Camberwell and serving with the 2/6th Battalion
  • 241816 Pte Herbert Derbyshire from Matlock and serving with the 2/6th Battalion
  • 241635 Pte Arthur Dooley from from Matlock and serving with the 2/6th Battalion
  • 46346 Pte William Varey from Belfast and serving with the 2/5th Battalion

Haryr Baker DeathHarry died whilst a Prisoner of War on the 27th August 1918. At the time he was working in the Nordstein Mine at Branch Camp 1028Harry Baker burial

It would appear from the Imperial War Graves Commission ‘Grave Registration Report’ that Harry’s body was exhumed and then reinterred in Cologne Southern CemeteryHarry Baker scrollUntitledPoppy
