2484 Pte George Henry Bewley

A soldier who enlisted in 1914 and later served in the Royal Flying Corps

George Henry Nordblad Bewley was born in 1883. At the time of the 1911 Census the Bewely Family were living at 5 Queen Street in Derby and George’s mother Henrietta (b. 1854) was the Sub-Postmistress. At this time George was an Electrical and Mechanical Engineer and was living by his ‘own account’ at home.

George enlisted into the 5th (Derby) Battalion, the Sherwood Foresters in September 1914 and was posted to C Company.

Bewley MICGeorge arrived in the France on the 28th February 1915 with the 46th North Midland Division. In July 1916 he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps and served in France from February to September 1917. George was discharged with the rank of 1st Class Air Mechanic at Blandford in February 1919 [information courtesy of Mel].
